1st Apple Watch joins the list of “vintage” products, with limited repair

Apple brought the Apple Watch Original to the list of vintage products. The interface was updated by the iPhone manufacturer on Thursday (30) to add the first generation of the smart watch, which was launched in 2015 with two sizes. With the change, the product still receives support, but in a limited way.

The update was performed on the company’s support page for the United States public. The document states that the 38 mm and 42 mm Apple Watch, debuted six years ago, is now considered “vintage” worldwide. The list of classic and obsolete devices for Brazil, however, has not yet been updated.

Classic products are considered those that ceased to be distributed for sale between five and seven years ago. They are still supported, but according to inventory availability or as required by law. After this period, the devices are considered obsolete and no longer receive repair.

“Apple suspends any hardware service for obsolete products, except Mac notebooks that are entitled to an additional battery repair period only,” apple’s support page explains. “Service centers cannot order parts for obsolete products.”

The Original Apple Watch was introduced in 2015. The brand’s first smart watch, the wearable had a look similar to the current generation with a 1.5-inch (38 mm) and 1.65-inch (42 mm) screen. The device also had the Apple S1 processor, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

The watch also had sensors to track exercises and monitor heart rate. In Brazil, the device reached stores with suggested price from R $ 2.899. The first generation of Apple’s watch has been upgraded to watchOS 4, announced by the manufacturer at WWDC 2017 alongside iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

In September, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 7. The watch brings design changes, such as thinner edges around the screen, and fast loading. The wearable also comes out of the box with watchOS 8, the new version of the company’s operating system. But the release date of the device is still a mystery.
