Google Meet drop-down window gains new features after update

Sometimes, during an online meeting, you need to open another tab to consult a piece of information, answer an email, or even continue working on an urgent task. Google Meet will make this process easier, with a more complete picture-in-picture mode and extra commands in the drop-down window.

In an update, the Meet picture-in-picture window will gain features to raise your hand, use chat, and turn captions on/off. Plus, resizing it will be easier, and the layouts for viewing the people on the call will be more flexible.

It’s worth noting that the news only works in Chrome, according to the Google Workspace blog post. If you use another browser, you may not have access to the option to follow the call through a drop-down window.

Prior to this update, the only options offered were to turn the camera and microphone on or off, as well as leave the meeting.

Access to picture-in-picture mode remains the same: just tap on the three dots that are in the main window of the call and choose the option.

The feature will be available to all users, whether personal or Google Workspace. It should arrive within 15 days, counted from June 7, the date of the official announcement.

Google Meet continues to receive improvements
With this update, the picture-in-picture mode of Google Meet is much more complete than that of competitors on the desktop.

In Zoom, the drop-down window appears automatically when minimizing the app, but only has the shortcuts to turn on/off microphone and camera. Microsoft Teams does not have this feature.

Even with many companies returning to in-person work, Meet continues to receive special attention from Google.

In April, it began giving the user the option to hide the video from specific participants, as well as an “Audio Only” mode.
