YouTube Premium to End Discount for Existing Users

Google has announced that it will end the YouTube Premium discount for existing users. When it launched the service, the company provided a special price for YouTube Red and Google Play Music customers. Starting in January 2024, existing users will pay the regular price of YouTube Premium.

The end of this discount has been awaited for some time. In July, when Google announced the increase in YouTube Premium, the company communicated that classic (or loyal, as I prefer to call it) users would continue with the special price for a few more months. Now Google has confirmed the date to end the perk.

The impact of the end of the discount for loyal users (who subscribed to the service since before it was called YouTube Premium) As YouTube Red never arrived here, the recipients of the discount will only be who subscribed to Google Play Music until the end of the service — and, consequently, migrated to YouTube Music, present in Premium.

YouTube Premium prices are divided into two plans: individual and family. The first one costs R$ 24.90. The second, which allows access for up to five members, costs $ 13.99 per month. The service has a special plan for students, which costs $ 7 per month.

With the end of the discount for old users, Google finally starts delivering the same prices to all YouTube Premium subscribers. The last price adjustment happened in August of this year, when the service increased the price to match what is charged on iOS devices.
