YouTube Will Have Longer, Harder To Skip Ads On TV

Google announced on Thursday (14) that the YouTube app for televisions will have fewer ads. On the other hand, these ads will get bigger and have a longer time to skip. The platform explains that the purpose of this format is to reduce interruptions during the viewing of a video.

According to Google, the change in the display of ads takes into account searches carried out by the company. In the statement on its website, the big tech company states that 79% of YouTube TV users would prefer ads displayed grouped rather than spread across video.

The company also points out that there was a 29% increase in the viewing time of videos with this format. In the statement, YouTube also explains that Shorts will start showing ads on TV.

The first report of this type of announcement surfaced on Reddit a few days ago (video above). In the post, made on r/YouTube, the 25-second ad shows several short 5-second ads — almost like a digital billboard or those videos on the big screen in Times Square.

In the example of YouTube, which used a GIF, we see a longer advertisement. However, it’s not clear if in this example we see a one-minute ad snippet with split space for more than one advertiser — let’s hope the ad lasts 1 minute, not 5 hours.

Anyone who has ever used YouTube on TV knows how painful it is to watch a video with multiple ads. In 2022, Tecnoblog published about the case of 10 ads in a row in a single content. The platform explains that this new format will be applied to long videos.
