Apple may bring a new sensor to its telephoto lens in 2025. According to analyst Jeff Pu, the big tech has plans to upgrade the zoom camera with a 48 MP sensor. The novelty would be exclusive to the Pro Max version of the iPhone 17, the most premium model of smartphones.
According to the source, Apple’s proposal with this update to the telephoto lens is to bring more integration between the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the Vision Pro. There is not much information on what this would look like, but with the launch of the VR headset scheduled for early 2024, it is natural that the iPhone 16 already brings more features for content consumption in the Vision Pro.
At another point, analyst Jeff Pu reported that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will also get a camera upgrade. According to Pu, the handset scheduled for September 2024 will have a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. In 2022, on the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple changed the 12MP main lens to adopt a 48MP sensor.
If Pu’s predictions come true, we will have in 2025, the year in which the iPhone 17 line will be launched, an iPhone Pro Max with a 48 MP sensor on all rear lenses. The higher the number of megapixels, the higher the resolution and detail in an image — which is great for viewing an image on a large screen or on the Vision Pro.
One of Apple’s first steps to make the iPhone 15 and its future VR headset more integrated was iOS 17.2. This update allows the user to shoot videos with 3D depth, joining the main and ultra-wide-angle lens to do so.
