WhatsApp Web Beta begins to release status publication by computer

The beta version of WhatsApp Web Beta is getting the tool to publish status updates. Previously, it was restricted to mobile applications registered on the account’s primary device. With the novelty, it will be possible to post texts, photos and videos directly from the computer.

The update was found by the WABetaInfo website, which specializes in covering the messenger. It’s an offshoot of a December 21 WhatsApp Beta update 2.24.1.4, which started unlocking the sharing of stories using connected devices.

Before, only the main device had the feature. Soon, secondary cell phones, tablets, and computers will also have access to the tool.

In the case of WhatsApp Web Beta, status publishing appeared in version 2.2353.59. The feature is rolling out gradually — here, I’m signed up for the beta, but I can’t post statuses yet.

WhatsApp statuses work almost identically to Instagram and Facebook stories. You can post a photo, a video, or a text and it’s available to your contacts for 24 hours. Even if you’re not interested in using WhatsApp as a social network, statuses can be a useful tool to give warnings to your contacts, for example.

WhatsApp for Mac also has new features
For now, the tool to post statuses has appeared on the web version, but not in the native apps. That’s not to say, though, that they’re out of news.

WhatsApp for Mac has gained new keyboard shortcuts and a new menu bar. With the new shortcuts, it’s easier to access frequently used features and jump from one conversation to another. The new menu bar, on the other hand, has a more intuitive layout, highlighting the app’s various options.

The changes are part of build 23.25.80, which is now available on the WhatsApp for Mac stable channel distributed through the App Store. The features are being released little by little, so it may take a few weeks before they appear out there.
