Telegram has released a new version of its app, which brings changes to the call screen, animations, and bot platforms. The company promises that the update has made the app lighter, using less battery and running better on older devices. The announcement was made on the last day of 2023.
Let’s start with the calls. Now, the Telegram screen changes color and background image according to the status of the call. If the signal is weak, for example, the screen turns red; If everything is right, it turns green, and so on. The emojis at the top of the interface act as end-to-end encryption code. If both participants are seeing the same emojis, the conversation is safe.
The company says that the quality of calls has been improved, and that connection and audio quality should receive special attention in 2024.
Telegram also says that this new version brings the biggest update to the messenger’s bot platform. Now, bots can react to messages and manage reactions, citations, and links, send replies to other chats or topics, among other features. Bots have also gained new abilities for channels, such as getting information about sweepstakes and boosts.
Finally, Telegram released the “Thanos effect” to everyone. It is an animation, which causes messages to “vaporize” on the screen when they are deleted. The company promises that even this is lightweight and works well on any device.
Telegram in 2023: channel recommendation, Stories and more
The Dec. 31 update was the last in a year marked by change. At the beginning of the year, Telegram gained a new media editor, with a blurring tool, to hide private data in photos, for example.
In June, the platform gained a not-so-new novelty: Telegram started to have Stories, which work practically identically to those of Instagram, Snapchat and other networks.
At the beginning of December, Telegram released the free transcription of two audios per week, for those who do not subscribe to the Premium plan. The app also started recommending channels similar to the ones the user subscribes to.
