One of the strategic implementations that Meta needs to take to enhance security.
Meta has axed support for WhatsApp on multiple smartphone models, in a bid to protect its user base, and align with the new versions of operating systems. This is with a view to forcing users to shift to other higher models that would be capable of handling new features and update. The group which operates WhatsApp stresses on the need to always maintain its devices to meet efficiency, security and effectiveness of the devices. They opined that the practice of ceasing support for older devices should too assist in reducing the risk of breaches. It could also provide improved performance for those who are on relatively new & improved devices.
Smartphones that experience this update
Such users of obsolete Android and iOS smart devices will lock out of WhatsApp after the company discontinues a level of support. Some of the models that are affected include the Apple iPhone 5, Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s plus and iPhone SE. On Android side, there are more Samsung models affected: the Note 3, S3 Mini, S4 Active, S4 Mini, S4 Zoom, Galaxy Core, Ace Plus, Grand, and Express 2. Motorola said some of its phones similar to Moto G and Moto X are also no longer compatible with the app While Huawei devices which are affected include Ascend P6 S, Ascend G525, C199, GX1s, and Y625. Sony users, with Xperia Z1 and E3, and LG owners, with such models as Optimus 4X HD, G, G Pro, and L7, will have to limit themselves with newer devices. Last but not the least; Lenovo is also out of list with models Lenovo 46600, A858T, P70 for S890 not supporting this feature.
Updating WhatsApp is essential to keep up with the evolution of operating systems and security standards. Older versions of Android and iOS are no longer able to support WhatsApp’s new features, which often incorporate advanced technologies and enhanced security protocols. By ditching older versions, Meta is ensuring that the app can continue to work properly on more modern devices, while also protecting users from cyber threats. The end of support for legacy systems reduces the risk of hacking, data leaks, and other issues related to outdated software.
