The Leaker Digital Chat Session reveals on Weibo that Huawei has planned to hold a launch conference for the Huawei P50 on April 17, 2021 in China. At the same time, Huawei is expected to unveil the smartphone at a global event in March. Given the sanctions that still target the manufacturer, the smartphone will likely be first available in China before being offered in more limited quantities on international markets.

It must be said that these smartphones are less suitable than at one time for Western users. Huawei no longer has an Android license, which means the manufacturer is now banking on its HarmonyOS home operating system. Similarly, the latest Huawei smartphones no longer carry the essential applications of the Google suite, such as Google Play Store, Google Maps and Google Assistant.

Huawei P50s should only be available in China initially

To replace them, Huawei has developed alternatives, such as App Gallery for applications or Petal Maps for mapping. However, these alternatives are still far from being at the level of Google’s solutions. The app store, for example, still has too many essential omissions and essentially offers an avalanche of Chinese applications. Which is obviously a shame, especially after what we know about the technical record of the P50.

This year there will be three models, Huawei P50 (6.1″-6.2″), P50 (6.6″) and Pro (6.8″). The smallest model will carry a Kirin 9000E chip while the other models will be entitled to a Kirin 9000. Similarly, the cheapest model should carry a 90 Hz screen while the other models would have a 120 Hz screen.

All variants are expected to come with HarmonyOS, but sources close to the manufacturer suggest that international markets will be eligible for Huawei P50 Android with EMUI 11. It should also be noted that this data on the technical sheet of future Huawei smartphones is essentially speculative at this stage.
