Samsung organized an online Unpacked conference to showcase the Galaxy A52 and A72. They succeed quite logically the Galaxy A51 and A71. The Galaxy A52 comes in two versions, one of which is 5G. The technical sheets are balanced, with more fluid screens and larger batteries. And the Galaxy A72 promises to be a touch-and-go photo. They will be marketed at the beginning of April at prices ranged from 379 euros to 479 euros.
They were particularly expected, despite the abundance of leaks that revealed a large number of technical specifications. Here they are finally in the flesh (or at least glass and metal): the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72, successors to the Galaxy A51 and A71 of 2020, of course. These are smartphones that obviously take up the positioning, both price and technical, with an update of the components.

Several changes are worth noting. But the most important thing is certainly the integration of 5G. Unlike 2020, when the 5G models of the A51 and A71 were launched five months after the 4G versions, Samsung is launching the Galaxy A52 5G at the same time as the Galaxy A52 4G. However, the 5G version of the Galaxy A72 has not been announced. Is this due to the shortage of components or a few potential surprises? Share your comments with us and open the discussion.
Galaxy A52: smoother screen, bigger battery and waterproof chassis
Let’s move on to the more detailed presentation of the two phones starting with the most iconic model. The Galaxy A52 doesn’t change the recipe for the Galaxy A51 that worked so well in 2020. Quite the contrary: the A52 is even very conservative. We find a screen of the same size and composition (Super AMOLED Full HD 6.5 inches), a similar photographic proposal with four sensors at the back and a sensor at the front (which is strictly the same, a 32-megapixel model) and a design combining glass at the front (Gorilla 5) and polycarbonate at the back.

Some important differences to note. The A52 benefits from more qualitative aluminium slices. Its design is now IP67certified, almost like the Galaxy S21. The refresh rate increases to 90 Hz (non-adaptive). There are now two speakers and the mobile is certified Dolby Atmos. On the processor side, Samsung abandons its SoC Exynos and chooses a Qualcomm platform, here the Snapdragon 720G.
An even smoother screen in the 5G version of the Galaxy A52
The battery goes from 4000 to 4500 mAh. And the fast charge from 15 watts to 25 watts. The main sensor becomes a 64-megapixel model (default 12-megapixel shot) with optical stabilizer and phase-detection autofocus. The other sensors, without a stabilizer or autofocus, are 12-megapixel (wide-angle), 5-megapixel (macro) and 5-megapixel (deep) models.
The Galaxy A52 5G takes over all of its elements with two exceptions. First, the Snapdragon 720G gives way to the Snapdragon 750G, to offer 5G connectivity (for the rest, the performance is relatively close). Then, the refresh rate is not 90 Hz, but 120 Hz (always non-adaptive). We are, of course, asking ourselves the question of relevance to autonomy. Especially since 5G also weighs on energy consumption.
The Galaxy A72 also wins a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
Let’s move on to the Galaxy A72. It does not enjoy (yet?) a 5G version. It benefits from the same design and technical developments as the Galaxy A52. So we find a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Full HDdisplay, here in 90 Hzversion. We also find the same improvements in terms of battery (here 5000 mAh)and fast charging(25 watts). We also find the waterproofing certification, the glass design (Gorilla 5), polycarbonate and aluminum. We also find the Snapdragon 720G which replaces the Snapdragon 730. Not to mention the two speakers and the Dolby Atmos certification.

On the photo side, the 32-megapixel selfie sensor is also back. On the other hand, at the rear, the improvements of the A72 vis-à-vis the A71 are different than those between the A51 and the A52. The main sensor remains the same: 64 megapixels. But it wins the optical stabilizer of the A52. The A71’s 12-megapixel wide-angle lens sensor also remains (123-degree angle of view, as before). The A71’s 5-megapixel macro sensor is also retained. On the other hand, the camera to calculate depths is removed and replaced by a much more useful module: an 8-megapixel sensor with telephoto(3x optical zoom). This sensor is equipped with an autofocus and an optical stabilizer. That’s very good news.
Prices of Galaxy A52 and A72: from 379 euros to 479 euros
Android 11 and One UI 3.1 are pre-installed everywhere. The three smartphones will be released in early April (the exact date has not been announced by Samsung France). They will all be equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (expandable by microSDXC). They will all come with a 15 watt charger (not 25 watts, what a pity). The price of the Galaxy A52 is 379 euros. The price of the Galaxy A52 5G is 449 euros. And the price of the Galaxy A72 is 479 euros. Which seems to be a very correct positioning. A pre-order period will be organized, with Galaxy Buds offered for each advance purchase. Hulls will also be offered at prices between 29 euros and 39 euros.
Find now in our columns a grip of the three models presented here. Smartphones will soon arrive at the newsroom to pass in our hands and undergo our many tests. So stay tuned to find out all about Samsung’s mid-range offering.
