LG will announce a smartphone equipped with two screens at THE IFA 2019 in Berlin. The one will embark a brand new navigator named Whale, which promises omnitasking. It could allow multiple applications at the same time to be active in the foreground.
While Samsung and Huawei have somewhat taken their feet in the carpet with the launch of the Galaxy Fold and Mate X, their respective foldable smartphone, LG seems to be banking on another technology to increase the surface of the mobile screen and offer multi-tasking. LG will take advantage of the IFA 2019 in Berlin to present a smartphone with two screens (which would also be 5G compatible, potentially the V60 ThinQ). It is not yet known whether the two slabs are integrated directly into the device or if the second comes with an accessory, such as a hull. This had been LG’s choice on the V50 ThinQ.

In any case, this smartphone will benefit from a brand new browser called Whale, LG announces. This one, based on Chromium, was developed in partnership with Naver, a South Korean search engine. Whale’s interest lies in its omnitasking functionality, the brand says. Problem, it does not explain what this means, we will probably have to wait until the IFA conference of September 6, 2019 to find out more.

One can imagine that omnitasking would in fact be a true multi-tasking. Today, multitasking offers the possibility of a foreground application, and others that remain open in the background, with some advanced options like playing music in background or Pictures-in-Picture videos.
