LG is changing course: its next smartphone will not have an alphanumeric name, but will be called LG Velvet. The company explains this choice by wanting to use “familiar and expressive names that will help the consumer to grasp the essence of the device best suited to his personality”.
It’s now official: the next smartphone of the LG brand will not be called LG G9. The manufacturer has chosen to move towards a more common term to christen his device, since his phone will be called the… LG Velvet (velvet in vf). According to the manufacturer, “the term “velvet” is intended to evoke images of lustrous softness and premium softness, two key features of the new phone.”
A few days ago, LG unveiled the design of its future device, which is completely free of the current trend of premium smartphones. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S20 and other Huawei P40s, the LG Velvet will have photo sensors in the shape of “raindrops”. Its objectives will therefore be much smaller and more discreet than those of the competitors. The manufacturer also explains that its smartphone will benefit from a“3D arc design”with a curved glass at the front and back of the device. Finally, LG also praisesthe “tactile elegance”of its Velvet.
No doubt that with all these elements, the smartphone can be successful with those who blame current smartphones (and we are part of it) for having a photo module too large in the back. While LG has not yet delivered any release date for its device, South Korean website Naver understands that the Velvet will be launched on May 15. It would benefit from a Qualcomm SoC Snapdragon 765 and 5G compatibility. All of this is very affordable, according to Naver. And that, too, is a crucial point. This will allow LG to return to the phone business, the company losing money for several years and representing only 3% market share.
