Apple makes it easier to change battery of new MacBook Pro, iFixit shows

Apple released two new MacBook Pro models this month, and for many people, they’ve gone back to the path they should never have left: notebooks with good ports so they don’t need adapters and function keys in place of the Touch Bar. Inside, it seems that Apple followed made similar options: now it has become less difficult to remove the battery from the laptop.

Who shows this is iFixit, site famous for dismantling products and publishing repair manuals. In a teaser of the dismantling of the MacBook Pro released on Tuesday (26), those responsible for the work explain that the battery is usually the last thing to be removed because it is a very difficult task. However, in the new notebooks, the thing is different.

First, it is not trapped under neath the logic board, which allows replacement without having to remove everything. In addition, there are tapes to help remove the cells—only the middle two require the trackpad to be removed first. These tapes are also present on iPhones and MacBooks Air released from 2018.

“The new MacBook Pro finally has the first reasonably user-friendly battery change procedure since 2012,” iFixit wrote. Since then, the battery has been glued to the cover that was below the keyboard and trackpad inside the product housing. To replace the component, it was necessary to replace this whole part.

iFixit is expected to finish the dismantling in the coming days, and we’ll know more details about how Apple’s new machine is on the inside.

The two new MacBooks Pro were released in the U.S. and other selected countries on Tuesday (26), after presentation last week.

Available for $1,999, they mark the debut of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which feature up to 32 GPU cores and 64 GB of RAM. In addition, the Touch Bar has been retired and important connections such as the HDMI port are back, as well as a revamped MagSafe charger.
