Samsung’s next top-of-the-line phones will come with extra power: the manufacturer presented on Tuesday (18) its new processor Exynos 2200 with graphics from AMD, the result of a collaboration between the two companies. The chip should start equipping the brand’s smartphones soon, such as the Galaxy S22.
The new processor made in process of four nanometers (EUV) stands out for the graphics of AMD. The launch brings the GPU Xclipse with the ARCHITECTURE AMD RDNA 2, new that will be responsible for bringing some new features to phones and tablets with the chip. Among them is ray tracing and variable rate shading (VRS), two increments that tend to catch the attention of the gamer audience.
“The Xclipse GPU is a unique hybrid graphics processor that is positioned between the console and the mobile graphics processor,” they announced. “Xclipse is the combination of ‘X’ that represents Exynos and the word ‘eclipse’. Like an eclipse, the Xclipse GPU will end the old era of mobile gaming and mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”
Moreover, the processor uses Armv9 cores. The formula is led by a Cortex-X2, which will take care of the most intense tasks, and three Cortex-A710, which will gather performance and efficiency in one core. The chip will still have four Cortex-A510s for activities that don’t require a lot of power to perform.
The image processor (ISP) supports 200 megapixel cameras. “At 30 frames per second (fps), the ISP supports up to 108 MP in single camera mode and 64 MP + 36 MP in dual camera mode,” they said. “It can also connect up to seven individual image sensors and drive four simultaneously to advanced multiple camera configurations.” The chip still shoots in 4K HDR or 8K.
The release also supports Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities. Regarding the 5G, Samsung reports that the chip integrates a modem with support for frequencies below 6 GHz (Sub-6) and mmWave. The South Korean manufacturer reports that the modem can reach speeds of up to 10 Gb/s.
Galaxy S22 must have variant with the new chip
Samsung is expected to launch more than 60 phones throughout 2022, according to The Elec in November, which is expected to give on average a launch per week. Of those all, 20 should come with the new Exynos 2200, like the Galaxy S22 line. The tablets of the Galaxy Tab S8 line should also bring the brand’s new processor.
Samsung is expected to unveil three new family phones in February. In the case of the Galaxy S22 and S22+, the design should remain the same. The Galaxy S22 Ultra tends to gain features of the Note line, such as the space to store the S Pen. Mobile phones should also have an edition with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The brand’s own chips should also equip intermediates of the Galaxy A and Galaxy M lines. Another 14 Galaxy models can bring chips from MediaTek and three more can paint with Unisoc processors.
“The Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production,” they announced.
