Why stick with your preferred websites and social applications when it is possible to have a feed that aggregates these sites? While services like Feedly and Inoreader are good for ‘journal’ if you will, it only works for articles. And today, whether we want it or not, content is buried on numerous outlets including YouTube, Reddit, Threads or Substack. To track everything, at once, what is required is a tool which is not RSS.
And this is actually what the Feeeed app (with four e’s) provides – an application for iPhone, iPad, Mac platforms that features the design of the Apple brand and a melodic and slick interface. This is one of the heart projects made by Nate Parrott – the designer from The Browser Company who created the Arc browser. Arc is slim and minimalistic designed and the Feeeed app brings same magic in your news feed. It is a free app which is updated frequently and of late Nate has included features of generating quick summaries of articles.
Organise your own walls
Sorting your own feed in Feeeed also takes time, however, it is something that is worth doing and it is necessary to do it. At the first launch of the app, settings that will be suggested are simple, so it is better to choose manual setting. Like in RSS apps, the Subscriptions screen shows streams of feeds from well-known services, and to add any RSS feeds here you can search for them and thus import your own through an OPML file.
But things get really interesting when you’re doing YouTube and Reddit in the dance. Open the YouTube menu and it’s possible to search and subscribe to any channel to add it to your feed. For Reddit, simply type in the name of a subreddit and the app will show you new posts. Now that third-party apps are gone, this can be a good way to stay up to date without getting lost in the full Reddit app. The same goes for Tumblr, Substack, and TikTok. The app even supports Mastodon and all Fediverse accounts, including Threads. Unfortunately, you have to search for each account by its exact name to be able to add it.
The app also has a newsletter feature that connects to your Gmail account. I couldn’t test it, Google seems to have blocked Feeeed’s account. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
Either way, shaping your news feed is the most tedious thing, but that’s precisely the whole point. Once all your sources are properly added, you can view the content without any difficulty.
