First wave of Apple Vision Pro could have up to 180,000 devices

Sales of the Apple Vision Pro began last Friday, January 19. An estimate by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shows that Apple has sold between 160,000 and 180,000 units of the virtual reality device.

It is worth remembering that the device costs a trifle of US$ 3,499 in the United States. This is the base price, which can go up as the customer puts in more storage, fancier straps, and an external battery, among other accessories.

Kuo made the calculation from the delivery dates for the pre-order Apple Vision Pro. Nowadays, it can take between six and seven weeks before the product reaches the consumer’s home. The actual sales start on February 2nd.

If the estimate is correct, Apple may have sold all units of the VR device – or spatial computing, as they prefer. Kuo himself had estimated that the manufacturer produced between 60,000 and 80,000 units for next week’s launch.

The analyst also raised the question of what the level of selling will be as time goes by. It may be that true Apple fans buy the product at this time, and that other consumers are not interested in it, which would cause interest in the device to drop.

Last week, Apple held a new round of Apple Vision Pro demos with journalists, influencers, and content creators from the United States. For the first time, the professionals were photographed (by the company) using the equipment.

Several of them hit the key that the Apple Vision Pro is heavy, even more so after using it for a more prolonged time. Some of them continue to be impressed with the quality of the screen, something I myself reported in my hands-on with the Apple Vision Pro directly from Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, in the United States.

Streaming giants are left out
Information about the availability of apps on the visionOS system has begun to emerge. According to Apple, there will be more than 1 million at the launch of the Vision Pro.

It’s important to say, though, that iPad and iPhone apps are being adapted for virtual reality. That is, it won’t be a completely new experience when interacting with them in the glasses.

Disney got on board headfirst, with a completely redesigned Disney+ app for the Vision Pro. On the other hand, companies of the size of Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and Meta chose not to release specific software for the device.
