Honor, Huawei’s subsidiary, has just formalized the Honor Play 4 and the Honor Play 4 Pro. In addition to a nice technical sheet, one of these two mobiles is able to measure the body temperature of users. Thanks to its infrared sensor, the Play 4 Pro determines if you have a fever. A feature that promises to be rather practical in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Honor Play 4 Pro can measure your body temperature, Honor product manager Wei Xiaolong proudly announced in an interview with Chinese blog MyDrivers. A statement made on the sidelines of the teasing campaign of honor Play 4 and Honor Play 4 Pro that were made official today. You’ll find this sensor in one of the Honor Play 4 Pro only versions.
In the process, the Chinese brand even released a short promotional video (which you can find at the end of the article) to highlight this feature. To take the temperature of a loved one, it is obviously enough to put the smartphone on the front of it and open the application dedicated to functionality.

Honor launches a smartphone with built-in thermometer
According to Wei Xiaolong, the infrared sensor can measure the temperature of an object, animal or human being in just a few seconds. All recorded data is stored locally in the dedicated Android app. This feature is obviously at its peak. Following the coronavirus outbreak, individuals living in China have become accustomed to regularly measuring their temperature. Fever is one of the most common symptoms of Covid-19.
As a reminder, some smartphones on the market are already equipped with an infrared sensor. A few years ago, most phones even had infrared. This sensor allows you to use the smartphone as a remote control for your TV. Today, infrared is becoming increasingly rare because most boxes use Wi-Fi remotes.
Premium technical sheets
The integration of an infrared sensor to measure temperature is not the only novelty of these two smartphones. The Honor Play 4 benefits from a premium technical sheet, with a 5G chipset, while the Honor Play 4 Pro is positioned on the high end. The screen size is 6.81 inches and 6.57 inches respectively (yes, the most powerful is also the smallest). They both display in Full HD. These are IPS slabs, so the fingerprint reader is not integrated into them. It is located on one of the side slices.
Their platform is very different: MediaTek Dimensity 800 for the first and Kirin 90 for the second. They both provide 5G connectivity, among other things. They come with 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (with no possible extension for the Pro version). Android 10 is dressed with the Magic UI interface version 3.1. No Google service in either phone. The Play 4’s battery reaches a capacity of 4300 mAh,compared to 4200 mAh for the Play 4 Pro. But the latter compensates with a faster, more powerful charge: 40 watts, compared to 22.5 watts for the Play 4.
