New messages with iOS 18 – the new world
This week has marked the official release of the iOS 18 operating system for iPhone, which will bring a set of enhancements and novelties. Of these, one which stands out is the support for Rich Communications Services (RCS) in Messages application.
What is RCS?
The concept of RCS is to offer improved services than the traditional SMS and MMS. However, while similar to Apple’s iMessage, it happens right in your stock messaging app and brings read receipts and live keystroke bubble. However, to enable RCS, your network operator has to get involved in the process. Thus even though your iPhone may support it, you will never be able to tap into it and maximise on it.
Enhanced Transmitted and Received messages between iPhone and Android
Due to RCS, iPhone users can now share high definition images and videos to Android users, so also the reverse is possible. They are no more hugely compressed images that are experienced when sharing media between these two operating systems at the moment.
Want to know if your carrier supports RCS? Apple collated a list that can be found on their wireless carrier support page. The three dominant companies in the United States – AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon – back it. However, the case is not definite as regards its impact on the small operators.
How to turn on(rcs) on iPhone?
Before enabling RCS, however, you require to upgrade your iPhone to iOS 18 to make the nitty-gritty operational. Then, you can enable RCS by following these steps:Then, you can enable RCS by following these steps:
Open Settings
Tap Apps
Choose Messages
Choose RCS Messaging under Text Messaging
Then turn on the switch which is besides RCS Messaging
If the RCS is not supported by your carrier, then sadly you will have to wait for your carrier to support it. iOS 18 is out in the open now for iPhone XR and later.
