OnePlus 9 and 9 Official Pro: Snapdragon 888, 120 Hz screen, Hasselblad photo, welcome to…

OnePlus has just lifted the veil on its two new flagship smartphones: the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. The focus here is on photography, thanks in part to a partnership with the optical brand Hasselblad. Both products are of course aimed at the high-end market.

It’s not really a surprise, since these two terminals have already leaked from everywhere, but they are now formalized: the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. Two high-end smartphones from the Sino-Finnish brand which, as usual, wants to offer an attractive technical card at a lower price than in the competition.

The two products have several things in common, starting with their revised and corrected design. The classic OnePlus 9 is available in purple, blue and black while OnePlus 9 Pro is sold in grey, black and “Morning Mist” colors, shiny shell with mirror effect. They are both equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 8 or 12GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of memory. Both have a photo module made in partnership with Hasselblad, but not the same sensors, as well as a 4500 mAh battery.

A OnePlus 9 Pro that focuses on the photo

The OnePlus 9 Pro is the most upscale smartphone in the 9 series and wants to titillate market behemoths like the S21 Ultra. It features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display (curved at the sides) in 1440p with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz (activatable at the same time). This screen brings some new features, such as a HyperTouch mode to reduce touch latency on some games or adaptive resolution. For example, it automatically goes into 1080p if you watch a video in this definition. OnePlus still offers 65 Watts fast charging (with charger included in the box), but the OnePlus 9 Pro also hosts 50-Watt wireless charging (dock sold separately, but offered with pre-order). A first.

Finally, on the photo side, the phone has a module of four Sony sensors: a 48-megapixel main, a 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle, an 8-megapixel Telefoto and a 2-megapixel monochrome. Hasselblad, for its part, handles the software processing that promises a lot. This software, precisely offers also an improved night mode, but also a portrait mode well done or a pro mode ultra complete for the most demanding. It is also capable of filming in 8K/30 FPS or 4K/120 FPS

The OnePlus 9 Pro is available from March 31 for 919 euros (8GB RAM – 128GB) or 999 euros (12GB – 256GB).

A wiser OnePlus 9

The OnePlus 9 is roughly the same as the 9 Pro, but with some subtle changes. For example, it has a 6.55-inch AMOLED (flat) display in Full HD with a refresh rate of 120 Hz (non-adaptive).

The OnePlus 9

If the 65 Watts wired fast charging is present, it has to settle for a 15 Watts wireless charging, which makes the purchase of a separate dock much less interesting. On the photo side, it is also less spoiled, with only three sensors (48 Mp, 50 MP and 2 MP). However, Hasselblad is still involved in software processing, which still makes it very promising in this segment.

The classic OnePlus 9 will arrive a little later, as it is scheduled for release on April 26. It will of course be sold for less, at 719 euros for the 8GB version of RAM – 128GB of storage and 819 euros for the 12GB version of RAM – 256GB of memory.
