The OnePlus 9 Pro is well equipped with a 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle photo sensor. Several days before the official announcement, Pete Lau, CEO of the Chinese brand, confirmed part of the technical sheet of the smartphone’s camera. As expected, the manufacturer is banking on the IMX766, a goal developed by Sony.
OnePlus continues the communication campaign around future OnePlus 9. After unveiling the design of the OnePlus 9 Pro in an official video, the Chinese group confirmed the presence of an area charger included in the box. Unlike Apple and Samsung, OnePlus doesn’t overlook this accessory.
Finally, OnePlus also revealed some of the camera hardware. The OnePlus 9 Pro features a Sony IMX789 main sensor that will be capable of filming in 4K/120FPS or 8K/30FPS. At this time, it is not known if this custom lens will also be present on the standard OnePlus 9.

OnePlus relies on two Sony-designed photo sensors
More recently, Pete Lau, co-founder and CEO of OnePlus, revealed the presence of an additional 50-megapixel photo sensor on the OnePlus 9 Pro, the Sony IMX766. It is an ultra wide angle sensor of 1/1.56 inches with an f/1.8 aperture. This photo module is already at work on oppo’s Reno5 Pro, OnePlus’ cousin firm. To make the most of it, the OnePlus 9 range also benefits from the expertise of Hasselblad, the Swedish photography specialist.
True to his habits, Pete Lau teases other revelations later this week. “Here’s part of the secret of our stunning ultra-wide camera. You’ll know a lot more on March 23rd, but if you can’t wait to see more, I might have a surprise for you later this week…” announces Pete Lau, anxious to increase the pressure.
As a reminder, OnePlus will present the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro and 9R starting Tuesday, March 23, 2021. The presentation conference will take place at 3 p.m., French time.
