Recensione OPPO A94 5G: il Dimensity 800U è una bella sorpresa

The packaging is large, beautiful large. But in this case it is right that this should be the case. Inside we find everything you can need: a transparent silicone protective cover, a 30W charger, a data cable with USB/Type-C port and a pair of traditional wired headphones, decidedly comfortable.

Then there’s him, OPPO A94 5G. I remove the protective film and am pleasantly surprised. It has a really nice back, with a Cosmo Blue coloring (also available in Fluid Black) that changes from blue to purple depending on how it is struck by light. It is not made of glass but of plastic, a good plastic that really retains so much (too) the footprints, makes it a little slippery but allows you to limit its weight, of just over 170 grams. The entire body is also made of excellent quality polycarbonate.

On the back there is also an important optical group, a little protruding but protected by a Gorilla Glass 5 glass, with four cameras the LED flash and a 5G writing that is immediately noticed. The OPPO logo at the bottom is quite discreet. Laterally there are the buttons for volume adjustment, the power button, the Type-C port with audio jack and speaker on the bottom and only one microphone on the top.

On the side there is also the SIM slot, beautiful long as it allows you to host two SIM cards and a microSD at the same time, which has become decidedly rare. Removed the front protective film, which I still recommend to keep, I noted with pleasure that the glass has an excellent oleophobic treatment that allows you not to hold the fingerprints much and make the touch and swipe more pleasant.

The display is nice bright, you can immediately notice it as soon as you press the power button to start the first configuration. The frame is quite thin except in the lower part where it remains a little thicker while on the top there is a hole that houses the 16MP camera. The biometric fingerprint recognition sensor is also integrated into the display, always very fast but not always accurate on the first shot.

In this case I have to say that the surprises were positive. Let’s start with the third line of the datasheet: MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor. What to say, I was really pleased. Let’s put aside prejudices, MediaTek is no longer what it was a few years ago. It makes excellent processors, has become the first manufacturer in the world and definitely aims high as demonstrated also with its new ones with Dimensity 1200 and 1100 announced at the beginning of the year.

The Dimensity 800U, a 2.4GHz octa-core, ensures decisively satisfactory performance to this A94 OPPO that I have always found fast and responsive in every situation of use. Also thanks to the ColorOS 11.1 which, despite offering many features and customization possibilities, is never heavy and always makes the user experience pleasant.

Benchmarks achieve good results but, as I said, we need to go beyond the numbers. By trying it “in the field”, this A94 OPPO manages to handle 60fps titles such as Wild Rift or Call of Duty Mobile without any problem. I only noticed some slight uncertainty in some game situations with Genshin Impact, but absolutely nothing to fear. The touch sampling frequency, which rises up to 180Hz in game mode, allows you to always have excellent responsiveness.
