Review MacBook Pro (Apple M1 Max): a notch and lots of power

After impressing the market with its powerful first-generation M1, Apple proved it could go further. In October 2021, the Apple Silicon platform evolved and brought two furious new chips: M1 Pro and M1 Max, which equip the latest MacBooks Pro. As the company itself highlights in its communication, the devices with these processors aim to serve people who engage in professional projects, requiring a lot of machine power.

Mini-LED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, 1TB SSD, 64 GB of RAM (!) and 140 watt charger. That’s just part of the specs of the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Max that went through my hands. In Brazil, this setting comes out for R $ 48.552 (I don’t know, you can buy a car with this amount). Is it worth it? I’ve been using Apple’s notebook for about three months and count my experience of using this review.

A first look at the look of the new MacBook Pro and you already notice a significant absence: goodbye, Touch Bar. It should be recognized, however, that many people find it unnecessary to have this shortcut for quick actions near the keyboard. And, apparently, the company was well aware of the rejection when it designed the current laptop. But that’s not all that caught our attention around here.

Analyzing the design as a whole, the MacBook Pro with M1 Max has gained an imposing look, with robust construction and details that help differentiate from the Pro M1. I must admit that it is not a quiet notebook to carry on a day-to-day life, taking into account its weight of more than 2 kg. But it is possible, of course, although it occupies considerable space in your backpack.

The chassis is thicker. Perhaps because it now houses more connections on its sides: three Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI port, SDXC card slot and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also the return of MagSafe, but we will talk about the connection ahead. Now, why did Apple put all this on? Clearly the company wanted to wave to professionals who need these doors in everyday life. You did it right!

The finish of the laptop remains excellent and the materials used still refer to the previous models. Aluminum throughout the body helps promote a luxurious and sophisticated look, as well as the colors available. There are only two: silver, version to which we had access, and space gray with a darker tone.
