Samsung renewed the Galaxy M line in May 2022. Leaving the M33 aside, for Brazil, the company announced only the M23 and galaxy M53 5G, device that we will explore better in today’s review. The intermediate has a very interesting specs with 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 5,000 mAh battery and 108 megapixel main camera.
However, it was announced for the same salty price of $ 3,499 of the Galaxy M52 5G, which is its predecessor. Is it worth it when that value drops? In recent days, I have used the M53 as the primary mobile phone and share my review in the coming minutes.

The Galaxy M53 is very different from the past generation. That’s because the phone has gained new clothing, with a visual language closer to the Galaxy M62, whose review is already available here. Like the A73, the M53 has a unique layout, i.e. with smooth rear, without customization in the camera module. The matte finish, although it is entirely plastic, is very beautiful.
In dimensions, it looks like the Galaxy M52, being a little heavier with 176 grams. Even if it’s a large device, the smartphone doesn’t weigh on the hands and the reduced thickness of 7.4 mm also contributes to comfortable usability.
The bright and distinctive colors have reached the Galaxy M line. The sides, which concentrate digital reader, volume buttons, chip drawer and USB-C connection, come with a simpler finish, but accompanying the main color of the device. The other options available are green and brown.
Samsung had to make significant cuts on the Galaxy M53, in my view, not to harm the Galaxy A53 and A73 line. In addition to the speakers, which have been little explored (I already comment on them in the next topic), this intermediary brings no certification against water and dust.
Up front, you can see that Samsung has invested more —and invested very well. Although the edges are more highlighted, the 6.7-inch screen is bright, fluid and the setting is so consistent that the feel is to be stirring in a Galaxy S22. All this thanks to the Super AMOLED Plus panel and full HD+ resolution (2400×1080 pixels).
It is a good setup for those who usually watch streaming and play on the smartphone. The high refresh rate was also maintained, i.e. there is 120 Hz here for greater fluidity. It is an important differential, because many mid-range handsets have offered 90 Hz. This is the case of the Poco M4 Pro 5G and the Realme 8 5G.
And then we come to the second cut: the speakers. The m53’s sound system is mono and there is also no 3.5 mm connection for headphones. The quality of the single speaker is very low, making the audio shrill with ease. It is best to resort to a Bluetooth headset, even.
Comparing the Galaxy M52 with the M53, you notice that the camera is the big differentiator between them. The new generation has adopted a main lens that produces 108 megapixel images. The wide angle dropped from 12 to 8 megapixels. The module still houses a macro sensor and one to measure the depth of field, both of 2 megapixelresolution.
