ByteDance, owner of TikTok, may soon launch TikTok Photos, an app to rival Instagram in the photo segment. App codes, containing promotional texts and feature strings, were found in the latest version of TikTok. It seems that after being copied by Meta, it is the social network’s turn to take revenge.
The discovery was made by the website TheSpAndroid, which mines app codes to find future news and hidden features. Recently, the site’s team revealed the discovery of simultaneous downloads on the Play Store — which has not yet been launched by Google. The website found the information about TikTok Photos in the APK version 33.8.4 of the TikTok app.
From the description found by another website, TechCrunch, TikTok Photos is Instagram’s rival. The text explains that the app is aimed at sharing photos, bringing profiles of popular creators on both Instagram and TikTok (of videos).
“Whether you’re a world traveler, a food blogger, or just like to share what’s going on in your life, TikTok Photos is our new photo-sharing platform dedicated to helping creators like you find like-minded people.”
Also, there is a message stating that TikTok Photos will be launched soon. This fact indicates that before the official launch, TikTok users received announcements about the new app. The finding shows that posts will be able to be shared from TikTok “videos” to TikTok Photos.
TheSpAndroid found the possible app icon in the APK file. It features the letter “P” stylized in pink, with a blue accent (both old TikTok colors) to look like a roll of photographic film — if you were born after 2000, you probably don’t know what that is.
After shaking up the social media market and seeing YouTube and Instagram copy it, now ByteDance again brings resources from rivals to its portfolio. TikTok allows the publication of “stories”, videos of up to 30 minutes (for selected creators) and posts in texts. Now it’s time to create an app from scratch to rival Meta.
