WhatsApp Beta gets Meta’s generative AI feature

WhatsApp Beta for Android has received Meta’s generative AI feature. Those who participate in the testing program can already use Meta AI — an uncreative but very straightforward name — on the messaging app. This feature is located at the top of WhatsApp.

Meta AI’s integration with WhatsApp allows users to send prompts faster. Thus, the user can ask a question, ask for suggestions for messages to talk to the contact or happy birthday message ideas — all without changing the application.

Meta AI right in the WhatsApp search field
Another new feature seen in version 2.24.7.14 of WhatsApp Beta for Android is the option to send prompts directly from the search field. So, instead of searching for a contact or message, the user can directly ask a question to Meta AI. Just like the fact that it avoids switching apps, it is a function that accelerates the use of artificial intelligence.

The workings of Meta AI don’t seem (at least for now) to be integrated into message typing. Samsung Galaxy AI, for example, has a tool that helps you write messages and correct texts.

Meta AI uses Llama 2, the second generation of the language model developed by Mark Zuckerberg’s company. Generative AI was announced in September 2023 and will have an app of its own.

However, a major differentiator of this artificial intelligence will be the integration with Meta’s services. In addition to the use of Meta AI on WhatsApp, the company has already announced that Instagram will also benefit from this novelty. Big tech has also created Emu, a generative image AI.
