ZTE will launch the first smartphone with selfie sensor under the screen

ZTE is expected to present the first commercial smartphone soon with a selfie sensor hidden under the screen. The information was confirmed by the president of the smartphone division of the brand. The mobile will be called the Axon 20 5G. If confirmed, ZTE would supplant Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo, which are also working on this technology.

ZTE Axon 11

Apart from the Nubia range, ZTE is certainly no longer the company we knew 10 years ago. Fewer smartphones available. Large fine from the United States for violating an embargo. Accused by the White House of the same evils as Huawei regarding national security. But ZTE continues to develop new smartphones and participate in the life of the sector.

We want proof of this the next launch of the brand. Ni Fei, the president of the Nubia brand and new president since June 2020 of ZTE’s entire smartphone division, posted a message on his Weibo account. In it, he explains that he will soon present the first commercial smartphone with a selfie sensor hidden under the screen, certainly thanks to Visionox’s solution. It does not specify when the phone will be unveiled. But August or September seems like a good assumption.

A model from the Axon range

As for the identity of the smartphone, it should be theAxon 20 5G. Indeed, the head of ZTE posted his message with a smartphone bearing this trade name. And, next to that name, you can read the word “under-screen camera.” It’s hard to make it clearer. It remains to be seen which platform will accompany this selfie sensor under the screen. As a model in the Axon range, it will be a premium phone, of course. Maybe an updated version of theAxon 11 5G officially made last March and illustrating this article.

If ZTE does manage to launch its first smartphone with selfie sensor under the screen in the coming weeks, the brand will outperform its major Chinese competitors, especially those that have already presented functional prototypes in the last 18 months. We are thinking in particular of Xiaomi who introduced such a model in June 2019, Oppo which did the same last December and Vivo which unveiled the Apex 2020 last February. Even Huawei is working on the subject.
