Android 13 will have function that records screen only of a selected application

You may have had the experience of recording an app to show on social media and a WhatsApp notification comes up at that time. On Android 13, this won’t be a problem. The operating system will receive a function that records the screen only of a specific app, without others intervening in the procedure.

Today, Android screen recording captures visible content, as 9to5Google explains. This means that everything that appears on the display is recorded, including any notifications, widgets, and transition effects.

Sometimes you just want to write an app to show how to perform an action, for example. Suppose you want to explain to your Followers on Instagram how to apply a certain effect to a photo. Imagine then if, in the middle of this, a WhatsApp message appears with a particular information. It’s a privacy risk.

Android 13 QPR2 should bring the solution
This week, Google announced the second beta version of the next quarterly update of Android 13 (QPR2). Updates of this type often bring bug fixes and performance tweaks, but the new version has the recording of specific applications as great novelty.

Mishaal Rahman, editor-in-chief of the Esper.io, had access to the feature and explains how it works. When you open the recording function, the user has the option to select the application to be written. Just pick one and start the procedure.

Recently used apps will first appear in the options, but the user can choose others from the list below. An interesting detail is that the feature appears in an interface named “Share or write an app”, which suggests that the novelty can also be used in broadcasts to other devices.

Recording in the new mode will only cause images from the selected app to be recorded. Notifications and external details will not be shown. The feature can be particularly useful for recordings on tablets or foldable phones, which display more than one application at the same time.

For when?
It may take a while for app recording to reach the final version of Android 13. The feature is still under development, which is why it does not work even in the current public beta version of the operating system.

However, there are good chances of the novelty being released at the release of Android 13 QPR2, version expected in March. Let’s keep an eye out.
