Samsung would announce a foldable smartphone with a three-fold screen by the end of the year. Still in development, this smartphone would be equipped with two hinges. In the coming years, the Seoul giant will bet everything on its catalogue of foldable phones, at the expense of some flagship ranges, including the Notes.

A new report from Nikkei prophesies the arrival ofa Samsung foldable smartphone opting for a new design. Unlike previous productions of the South Korean brand, including the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip, this future phone would be built arounda screen that folds into three parts. De facto, the slab would be split by the presence of two hinges.
“The design of the smartphone is designed so that the height/width ratio of the unfolded screen is consistent with the ratio ratio 16: 9 or 18:9, so that more video games and other applications could work more easily with better resolutions” explains an industry source close to Nikkei. In the past, Samsung has filed several patents for a smartphone that folds in three, either inside or out.

Samsung bets everything on foldable smartphone
According to sources interviewed by Nikkei, Samsung is determined to expand its catalog of foldable smartphones with several new models every year. The emphasis on the foldable will inevitably precipitate the end of some of the manufacturer’s flagship ranges. As expected, the Galaxy Note range will soon come to an end. This year, Samsung will not be launching a Note 21.
“The suspension of the Note series was pretty much decided last year. The company wants to bet more on foldable phones that have much higher prices with distinctive designs,” a source close to the case said. Another source added: “The company plans to use foldable phones as a key differentiator” between its various offerings. With its rich offering, Samsung hopes to sell 10 million foldable smartphones worldwide each year.
