Google Wear OS, survey just days after I/O 2021

It seems that Google is proposing a survey to Wear OS users: in recent hours there have been numerous reports, especially on Reddit, of positive feedback. With a little unsea agreeable twist: many clicked on the notification and the survey didn’t appear – the Wear OS app simply opened without any error message. For what it’s worth, the survey asked how many times the smartwatch had been used in the past week, and to list positives and negatives.

The timing of this survey is interesting. Next week the Google I/O 2021 will be held – online only, due to the pandemic – which is the ideal time of year to announce updates and news on the many software products of the giant. According to previous rumors, this year the operating system for wearable devices should be among the protagonists of the event: it has been a long time since a significant update arrives, and it could be argued that Google does not seem to have given it the right attention lately. The case of Play Musica is emblematic in this sense: the service was finished months ago, and replaced with YouTube Music. Well, Google hasn’t developed a client for Wear OS yet.

It’s no mystery, moreover, that Google’s smartwatch bet didn’t pay as much as Apple’s. But the company does not seem willing to throw in the towel: it has even recently bought Fitbit, one of the leading companies in the wearables sector. It has been rumoured in recent weeks that just on the occasion of the 2021 I/O Google could finally present its first official smartwatch, naturally under the Pixel brand.
